I’m a designer and developer working across web builds and illustration. Most of what I do sits at the intersection of the two — visual systems that hold up in a browser, and code that doesn’t get in the way of the idea. I studied design formally, but most of what I actually use day to day I picked up by taking on more than I was ready for and figuring it out under deadline.

Before this, I spent several years building interfaces inside other people’s studios — mostly front-end work, occasionally illustration when a project needed it. It was a good way to learn how real teams ship things, and an equally good way to learn what I didn’t want my own practice to look like.

Most of what I make starts as a bad drawing in the margin of something else.

Now most of the work happens here, in the open, one entry at a time. I write about the projects as they happen rather than after the fact — partly for anyone following along, mostly so I remember what I was actually thinking when a decision got made. I keep this journal as a record of process as much as output.

When I’m not doing client work, I’m usually drawing something small and unfinished, or rebuilding some part of this site for no reason anyone asked for.
