About Me

Hi, I’m Marcel but you can just call me Mars! I’m a creator on a mission to share the love for science through creative means.

Ever since I was young, I have always viewed myself as a man of science. I can still remember my 6th grade declaration of becoming a marine biologist when I grow up. Staying true to my declaration, I pursued a scientific academic path and took up Fisheries to study aquatic life. I got into my dream schools and continued to develop my scientific prowess. This endeavor, however, soon shifted as I entered adulthood.

In 2021, a series of events pushed me to reflect on my whole life. Last January 2021, I was diagnosed with Major Depression. My diagnosis led me to realize how crucial it is to focus on what really matters. The Covid19 pandemic opened my eyes to the beauty of working remotely. Finally, my thesis work made me acknowledge that the Academe is not for me. Much of my love for science was sharing and presenting what I’ve learned rather than conducting studies. These events made me rethink what I wanted to do and what walk of life to pursue.

With the help of the internet, it dawned on me that an online career as a science communicator is the best path for me to pursue. I never got to pursue it during my academic journey, but I’ve always had a knack for arts and creative work. In 2022, I had a huge grin on my face knowing that I can culminate my creativity with all of my academic skills into a career.

That’s how I got here. I will continue to share about what I love in hopes that others will find theirs and pursue it too. Join me in this journey of growth.

About The Art Science Growth Newsletter

The Art Science Growth Newsletter is a weekly exploration of an idea through different perspectives. The perspective of Art is the abstraction of an idea for us to understand human perceptions around it. The perspective of Science is learning the natural concepts of what’s around us. Finally, Growth is exploring how we can apply what we’ve understood and learned into our own life as we move forward. In a way, the ASG Newsletter is a glimpse into my train of thought. I am hoping that it will provide other a fresh way of thinking.
